On November 19, the “Kazakhstan” pavilion was opened at VDNH (Exhibition of Economic Achievements) in Moscow after a large-scale restoration.
VDNH is the largest exposition museum and recreational facility in the world. It is one of the most popular public places in Moscow with 325 hectares of historical pavilions, arches and museums, fountains, ponds and sculptures. Forty-nine cultural heritage sites of Moscow are located here.
The historical part of “Kazakhstan” pavilion provides wide range of information about the rich history and culture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as strategic programs for the country’s further development. Moreover, the pavilion area will be used for trade and exhibition activities as well as for cultural events.
According to the agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Russian Federation, which was signed in 2011, the pavilion has been given on lease to Kazakhstan for 50 years for the future placement of the National Exposition.
In 2017, restoration work began to return the building to its historical appearance of 1954, as well as work to increase the pavilion area by constructing an extension to the historic building. Since that moment, supported by the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Russia, the largest reconstruction has been carried out. The facade, interior and sculptural compositions have been restored, as well as the granite staircase at the entrance. A glass dome was built over the central exhibition hall. Today, as 65 years ago, at the entrance arch of the pavilion, the guests are greeted by sculptures of Akyn – Zhambyl Zhabayev and Hero of Socialist Labor – Shyganak Bersiyev.
Currently, the total area of the pavilion is 4,826 m2 including the historical part of 1,716 m2; the extension of 3,110 m2; the number of floors in the extension – 5 (including 1 basement). Moreover, there is a trade and exhibition hall of 225 m2; a conference hall (cinema hall) for 150 seats and a restaurant for 120 visitors in the renovated building.
