The event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Stanislaw Lem, an outstanding representative of Polish science fiction and one of the most widely read science fiction writers in the world took place on October 1, 2021 on the seventh floor of NUR ALEM Future Energy Museum.
The event was organized by “NC “QazExpoCongress” JSC and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nur-Sultan.
The planetarium of NUR ALEM Museum acquainted the visitors with the unique exhibition of “Lem’s Bestiary through the Eyes of Mruz” dedicated to the Krakow graphic artist Daniel Mruz who managed to give the most perfect artistic form to the heroes of Lem’s works.
The bestiary concept based on a reference to medieval collections that show amazed readers monsters like elephants, camels, griffins, unicorns. Moreover, the emancipated machines, some grotesque carefully drawn and combined with their descriptions from the novels and stories of Lem were presented here.
The program of the event included an award ceremony for the winners of the “Year of Lem in Kazakhstan: What’s Next? Science-Technology-Universe-Me” for creation of a poster, creative craft and a short video among primary, secondary and higher educational institutions of an artistic profile. Young and talented artists from all over Kazakhstan presented their incredible works. The best ones were selected and awarded in the most cosmic part of the NUR ALEM Museum – the Cosmos floor.
Moreover, the talented Polonium artist Marianna Polyakovskaya conducted a master class in drawing on the “Space” theme.
It is worth noting that the Seim of the Republic of Poland declared 2021 the Year of Stanislaw Lem. Remaining immensely popular among his compatriots, Lem also became one of the most famous Polish writers in the world. The literary genre where he achieved the greatest success is the science fiction novel. In his work, the writer often confronts a person as a biological and thinking creature with the world of artificial intelligence, robots and other inanimate beings.
