Within the Food, Agriculture and Livelihoods theme week of EXPO 2020 Dubai the Kazakhstan Pavilion hosts the International Conference Prospects for the development of food security of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Central Asia wa held on February 21, 2022 in the business lounge of the pavilion.
Due to the increase in the world’s population, agricultural productivity needs to be increased through innovations in order to improve the food global supply chain, reduce food losses and food waste, and improve access to the population suffering from food shortages. Such pressing challenges as drought, climate change, water scarcity, as well as the pandemic, have a negative impact on agriculture, thereby undermining the food security of each country. The International Conference “Prospects for the development of food security of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Central Asia” served as an excellent platform for the exchange of experience in the field of sustainable agriculture and for discussing topical issues that hinder the food security development. Organizers of the event are National Agrarian Scientific and Educational Center (NASEC) and the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS). The event was held in hybrid format both offline and online.
The conference was opened by the Chairman of the Board of National agrarian science and educational center Dr. Issayeva G.S., the President of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development Mohammed bin Obaid Al Mazrooei, the Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary Aidyn Aimbetov, and IOFS Director General Prof. Yerlan Baidaulet.
After the plenary session of the conference, NASEC and Arab Authority for
Agricultural Investment and Development, IOFS and Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development, NASEC and Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary JSC NC, IOFS and Kazakhstan Garysh Sapary JSC NC signed Memorandums of
Understanding.
The event consisted of three sessions that covered issues of developing strategic commodities, ensuring food safety and livestock health, and investment opportunities in the agricultural sector of Kazakhstan. Participants also addressed the role of agricultural science in the development of food security, possible solutions to drought, climate change, water scarcity, and potential measures for sustainable agricultural development. The conference was attended by representatives from Ministries of Agriculture of Central Asian countries, international food and scientific institutions, and agricultural holdings.
