‘Earth – Cosmos’ exhibition of art has opened in NUR ALEM Future Energy Museum. It gathers the paintings and objects of several generations of Kazakhstani artists dedicated to the theme of cosmos, the exploration of outer space and the comprehension of the universe.
The project is organized by the ‘QazExpoCongress’ JSC, Kasteyev State Museum of Arts and NPO Eurasian Cultural Alliance.
The exhibition includes more than 25 works of famous Kazakhstani artists from the collection of Kasteyev State Museum, among which there are paintings, graphics, double-sided art work on paper, as well as one sculpture. All the artists are united by the common theme of outer space with its eternity and the main secrets of the universe, anticipation of the future and nostalgia for the past.
The exhibition visitors will have a unique opportunity to explore the cosmic space through the eyes of the artist Sergey Kalmykov, to get acquainted with the artworks by masters of the seventies such as Kamil Mullashev and Alexey Stepanov, their paintings made after Yuri Gagarin’s flight into orbit, as well as with newer artists of the era of independent Kazakhstan and the global world which allows people to attend space privately via Space X rockets.
– “Today we open an exhibition, consisting of artworks from the permanent collection of Kasteyev State Museum. It is a significant event for us as it is our first collaboration with a cultural institution of such relevance since the opening of Astana EXPO 2017. With this project we aim to continue the series of cultural events dedicated to the 30 years of the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. During this summer we created a park of sculptures on the territory of QazEXPOCongress, there are various cultural and entertaining events are taking place the whole summer as well as photo exhibitions located in front of the main entrance to NUR ALEM. Today we are excited to open the exhibition Earth-Cosmos which we want to believe will became a cultural landmark of the city for the period of its duration.” – said the first vice-president of the head of ‘QazExpoCongress’ JSC Daulet Erkimbayev
– The ‘Earth – Cosmos’ exhibition covers almost a century history of Kazakhstani artists’ interaction with the theme of space, dreams, utopias and fantasies about the future – from one of the last avant-garde artists Sergey Kalmykov and his work “The Fantastic Landscape with Red Rocks” in 1938 to the sculpture “Six Lives of One Soul” by Saken Narynov in 2014. In addition, ‘Earth – Cosmos’ exhibition is a crucial chance to see the pearls from the collection of Kasteyev State Museum of Arts in the high-tech and futuristic context of NUR ALEM Future Energy Museum, and to witness how the past morphs into the future”, – said the exhibition curator Vladislav Sludskiy.
The titles of the artworks speak for themselves: “Reflections on a Star Bowl”, “Moon Breakfast”, “Space Routes”, “Girl on the Moon”, “Galaxy”, “UFO”, “Above Baikonur”. The fantasies and artistic allegories by the artists take the imagination to incomparably distant unknown worlds, some of which have nevertheless materialized and become part of our everyday life. For example, the shape of the Sphere, in which NUR ALEM Future Energy Museum is located, repeats with amazing accuracy the proportions of buildings in the painting “Above the White Desert: the Earth and Time. Kazakhstan by Kamil Mullashev”; the artist completed the painting in 1978.
‘Earth – Cosmos’ exhibition will be held since August 24 to September 26, 2021. The visitors are required to enter with Ashyq mobile app.
